Engorgement in the early postpartum period occurs when increasing circulation, growing milk supply and retained tissue fluid “balloon” the breast beyond its comfortable capacity. In it’s extreme forms, it may feel as though your breasts are going to burst. Here are some things you can do:
- Apply cold compresses.
- Drain your breasts frequently.
- Improve your baby's latch
